
Biography

Vikram Rajan is a Vienna based concert pianist of Indian origin.
He studied classical piano at the University at Buffalo (New York) with Stephen Manes, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree. Further studies took him to the Mannes College of Music in New York City with Jerome Rose (Master of Music degree) and to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (postgraduate diploma), where he studied with Wolfgang Watzinger and Noel Flores. Masterclasses with Elisso Wirssaladze, Zoltan Kocsis, Malcolm Bilson, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Naum Grubert, Natalia Trull and the Brentano String Quartet, among others, paved the way of his artistic development.
Vikram Rajan is a prizewinner (1999) of the “University at Buffalo Concerto Competition”, won the third prize at the “Chopin” piano competition in Brest, France, in 2008, as well as second prize and the special prize for the best interpretation of a Spanish work at the “Teresa Llacuna” competition in France. In 2020, Vikram Rajan received a special mention at the Fourth International “City of Vigo Piano Competition”, where Martha Argerich chaired the jury. In 2023, he received the second prize in the “Grand Prix” category at the “Music Competition Online” in France for his solo piano performance.
Vikram Rajan has performed in the USA, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands and France, at venues like the Vienna Musikverein, the Bösendorfer Hall and the Bösendorfer Stadtsalon in Vienna, and in music series such as the “Accueil Musical de Saint-Merry” concert series in Paris and in art festivals like the “Palaissommer” festival in Dresden and the Wiener Festwochen in Vienna.
